Wed Dec 04 05:34:27 UTC 2024: ## Mumbai Triumphs in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Opener, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube Shine

**Mumbai, India –** India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube made triumphant returns to competitive cricket in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on December 3rd, leading Mumbai to a resounding 39-run victory over Services.

Yadav, back in action after the South Africa T20 series, blazed 70 runs off 46 balls (strike rate 152.17), including seven fours and four sixes. Dube, returning from a three-month injury layoff, was equally impressive, smashing an unbeaten 71 off just 37 deliveries (strike rate 197.22), featuring two fours and seven sixes. Together, the pair plundered 9 fours and 11 sixes, dismantling the Services bowling attack.

Mumbai posted a formidable 192/4 in their 20 overs. Shardul Thakur (4/25) and Shams Mulani (3/xx) spearheaded the bowling attack, restricting Services to 153 all out in 19.3 overs. Dube also chipped in with a wicket and was named Player of the Match.

While Prithvi Shaw (duck) struggled at the top, Ajinkya Rahane contributed 22 and Shreyas Iyer scored 20 for Mumbai. Services captain Mohit Ahlawat top-scored with a 54-run knock, but it proved insufficient against Mumbai’s powerful batting and bowling line-up.

The match marked the return of several star players for Mumbai, including Yadav, Rahane, Dube, Thakur, and Shaw, under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer. Noteworthy is that Yadav was retained by Mumbai Indians for ₹16.35 crore in the IPL auction, while Dube was retained by Chennai Super Kings for ₹12 crore. Iyer himself fetched ₹26.75 crore from Punjab Kings.
