Wed Dec 04 00:54:05 UTC 2024: ## Bihar Assembly’s Winter Session Concludes with Unanswered Questions and Disruptions
PATNA, [Date] – The Bihar Legislative Assembly’s five-day winter session concluded on November 29th with nearly 150 questions remaining unanswered. These questions, concerning public interest, were raised by both ruling and opposition members. Of the total approved questions, 117 were from the Vidhan Sabha and 31 from the Vidhan Parishad.
While the government successfully passed five bills and secured approval for supplementary budget allocations, the session was marred by disruptions caused primarily by the opposition. A significant portion of the assembly’s time was lost due to protests and disruptions. For instance, 105 out of 360 minutes before lunch on Wednesday were wasted due to opposition protests.
The opposition vehemently protested against the government’s policies on smart meters and the Wakf Board, staging both inside and outside the assembly. The opposition’s protests led to the adjournment of the house on multiple occasions.
Despite the disruptions, the question hour ran relatively smoothly except for one day. A total of 964 questions were received, with 809 approved and 692 answered. Additionally, the session saw the handling of 103 attention-grabbing notifications, 154 applications, 112 petitions, and discussion on 98 non-governmental resolutions.
Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and all members for their cooperation in maintaining order, despite the challenges. The session highlighted a contrast between the government’s legislative achievements and the significant number of unanswered public concerns.
