Tue Dec 03 22:54:21 UTC 2024: **Khunti Police Tackle Resurgent PLFI Naxal Activities**
KHUNTI, INDIA – The People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) Naxal group has re-emerged as a significant challenge for Khunti police. Recent incidents include postering in the district following election announcements, arson attacks on vehicles, and a near-miss attempt to set fire to vehicles at a railway construction site in Karra.
Within a week, the PLFI carried out two major incidents. On Sunday night, pamphlets demanding levies were found affixed near the Lodhma railway crossing, followed by an attempt to ignite vehicles at the construction site. Workers extinguished the fire before significant damage occurred.
The police’s response has been swift. Following an earlier arson attack on vehicles at a road construction site in Torpa, police arrested Rajesh Gop alias Malinga, a Naxalite who had been released from prison two years prior. Police claim to be actively pursuing his associates.
Khunti SP Aman Kumar stated that while the PLFI’s influence is waning compared to its peak – when it had zonal and area commanders and enjoyed significant local support – the police are committed to eradicating Naxal activity and apprehending those responsible for recent incidents. He emphasized that police presence in villages has significantly weakened the group. While acknowledging some residual criminal elements, SP Kumar affirmed the police’s determination to make the area Naxal and crime-free. Investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the recent attacks and the postering campaign. Construction on the railway line has resumed under increased police protection.
