**Raipur/Hyderabad, India** – A strong earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale shook parts of Chhattisgarh and Telangana on Wednesday morning, causing widespread panic but no reported casualties or significant damage.
The tremors, which were felt most strongly in the Dantewada, Sukma, and Bijapur districts of South Bastar in Chhattisgarh, marked the first recorded earthquake of such magnitude in the region. Many residents reported rushing out of their homes in fear, describing the experience as unprecedented.
The epicenter, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), was located in Mulugu district of Telangana, at a depth of 10 kilometers, with coordinates 18.44 North latitude and 80.24 East longitude. The quake was felt across various districts in Telangana, including Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Warangal, Siddipet, Hanumakonda, and Khammam.
Telangana meteorological officials stated that this was the strongest earthquake to hit the state in the past 20 years. While the tremors caused considerable alarm, authorities reported no injuries or major structural damage.
