**Chandigarh, December 2, 2024** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally dedicate India’s three new criminal laws to the nation tomorrow, December 3rd, at a ceremony in Chandigarh. The event will showcase the practical application of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, which replaced British-era legislation on July 1st.

The ceremony, themed “Secure Society, Developed India – From Punishment to Justice,” will feature a live demonstration simulating a crime scene investigation using the new laws. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will join Prime Minister Modi.

Chandigarh, chosen for its 100% implementation of the new laws, is under heightened security for the event. Additional police forces and checkpoints have been deployed, with traffic restrictions in place and a no-fly zone declared for drones.

The new laws aim to modernize India’s justice system, tackling contemporary challenges like cybercrime and organized crime, and focusing on delivering justice for victims. Home Minister Shah previously hailed the laws as the biggest 21st-century reform of India’s legal system, predicting they would create the world’s most technologically advanced criminal justice system. The prime minister’s vision, according to official statements, was to replace colonial-era legislation and shift the focus from punishment to justice.
