The screening was attended by several ministers, parliamentarians, and actors, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and actors Vikrant Massey and Kangana Ranaut.
The film, which was released on November 15th and focuses on the 2002 Godhra train burning and subsequent Gujarat riots, has been highly divisive. While some praise it for highlighting the events surrounding the Godhra incident, others criticize it as propaganda.
Following the screening, PM Modi lauded the filmmakers on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Attended the screening of ‘The Sabarmati Report’ with fellow NDA MPs. I appreciate the filmmakers for their efforts.” Lead actor Vikrant Massey described the experience as a career highlight.
Kangana Ranaut, also present at the screening, called the film important and urged viewers to watch it with their families, suggesting it reveals hidden truths about the Congress government’s alleged political exploitation of the tragedy.
The film’s release has not been without controversy. Lead actor Vikrant Massey revealed receiving threats, including threats against his nine-month-old child. He recently announced a break from acting until 2025.
The film’s pre-release trailer generated significant reactions, with some praising the film for shedding light on the Godhra incident while others labeled it propaganda.
