**Saharsa, Bihar/Hasan, Karnataka:** A 26-year-old IPS officer, Harshvardhan Singh, tragically died in a road accident in Karnataka on Sunday. Singh, a 2023 batch IPS officer from Bihar’s Saharsa district, was on his way to join his first posting as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Hasan district when the accident occurred.

Preliminary reports indicate that a tire burst on the vehicle he was traveling in, causing it to lose control approximately 10 kilometers from Hasan. Singh, who had completed his training in Mysuru, died at the scene.

The news has cast a pall of gloom over his hometown of Fatehpur Padaria village in Saharsa and across the state. Many expressed their grief, lamenting that he was so close to reaching his destination.

Before pursuing his IPS career, Singh had reportedly resigned from two government jobs to prepare for the UPSC examination. His father, Akilesh Singh, is an SDM in Madhya Pradesh, and his younger brother, Anand Vardhan, an IIT engineer, is also preparing for the UPSC exam. Singh himself completed his B.Tech from NIT Indore. His entire education and family life were based in Madhya Pradesh. He had recently completed two months of training as a Panchayat Raj Officer in Purnea district, Bihar before joining the IPS.

The incident is a devastating loss for his family, friends, and the entire IPS community. Investigations into the accident are underway.
