Mon Dec 02 16:46:27 UTC 2024: ## Hezbollah Fires on Israel, Citing Ceasefire Violations

**Jerusalem, December 2, 2024** – Hezbollah launched projectiles into a disputed border area held by Israel on Monday, marking the first attack since a U.S. and French-brokered ceasefire went into effect last week. The attack came after Lebanon accused Israel of violating the truce over 50 times in recent days.

The Israeli military confirmed two projectiles were fired towards Mount Dov (Shebaa Farms), falling in open areas with no reported injuries. Hezbollah claimed the attack was a “defensive and warning response” to what it described as repeated Israeli ceasefire violations, stating that complaints to mediators proved futile.

The 60-day ceasefire, intended to halt more than a year of fighting, has already seen several alleged Israeli strikes in Lebanon, including a drone strike that killed a motorcyclist and another that wounded a Lebanese soldier. Israel claims these strikes were retaliatory measures for Hezbollah ceasefire violations, though specifics haven’t been provided. The ceasefire agreement stipulates that both sides withdraw from southern Lebanon during this 60-day period, with Hezbollah expected to retreat north of the Litani River. However, one recent Israeli strike targeted an area far north of the Litani. Lebanese state media also reported two deaths in a separate airstrike on Saturday.

Lebanon’s parliament speaker, Nabih Berri, accused Israel of 54 ceasefire breaches, including home demolitions, drone overflights, and deadly airstrikes. He urged immediate international intervention. The U.S. and France, tasked with monitoring the agreement, are now under pressure to address these escalating tensions. Israel maintains its right to respond to perceived violations under the terms of the ceasefire.
