Tue Dec 03 13:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Broadway Bids Farewell to Beloved Star Gavin Creel in Livestreamed Memorial

**NEW YORK/LONDON** – A public memorial celebrating the life of acclaimed Broadway and West End star Gavin Creel will be livestreamed globally today, December 2nd. Creel, who passed away on September 30th at age 48 following a battle with a rare and aggressive cancer, left an indelible mark on the theater world.

The memorial service, taking place at Broadway’s St. James Theatre at 4 p.m. ET (9 p.m. GMT), will be streamed on two YouTube channels: MCC Theater’s channel for US viewers and the Society of London Theatre’s Official London Theatre channel for UK audiences. The livestream will not be available on demand after the event concludes.

Creel, a Tony Award winner (for *Hello, Dolly!*) and Olivier Award winner, was known for his roles in numerous Broadway hits, including *The Book of Mormon*, *Hair*, *Waitress*, and *Into the Woods*. Beyond his stage work, he was a dedicated LGBTQ+ advocate and a prominent figure in charitable work, particularly with Acting For Others in London.

Following the memorial, Broadway marquees will dim at 6:45 p.m. ET on December 3rd in his honor, with Off-Broadway’s MCC Theater joining in the tribute. Donations in Creel’s memory can be made to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The MCC Theater recently presented Creel’s original musical, *Walk on Through: Confessions of a Museum Novice*.
