Tue Dec 03 00:29:13 UTC 2024: ## NATO Ships Arrive in Tallinn for Exercise Pikne

**Tallinn, Estonia** – Six warships from Britain, Norway, the Netherlands, France, and Belgium arrived in Tallinn this weekend as part of a visit by the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1). The group, which includes the Norwegian flagship HNoMS Maud, will participate in the upcoming Exercise Pikne with Estonian Defense Forces.

The arrival of the SNMG1, NATO’s primary maritime strike force, underscores the increased security concerns in the region. Estonian Navy commander Commodore Ivo Värk highlighted the link between the allied presence and the current security situation, emphasizing the group’s role in deterrence and response to maritime threats. The SNMG1’s visit, following a similar deployment in April 2022, demonstrates NATO’s commitment to maintaining a high level of readiness in the Baltic Sea. The group’s presence contributes to allied presence and the ability to respond swiftly to emerging threats, both in peacetime and during conflict. In addition to the military exercises, a new Estonian Radio app was also launched, offering a wide selection of radio stations, music and podcasts.
