**Florence, Italy** – Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove is recovering well after collapsing on the pitch during Sunday’s Serie A match against Inter Milan. The 22-year-old, who was initially placed in an induced coma at Careggi Hospital in Florence, is now awake, alert, and oriented, according to a club statement.
Bove collapsed in the 16th minute of the game, leading to a VAR review and the eventual abandonment of the match. He was immediately attended to and rushed to the hospital. Following a night in intensive care, he was extubated Monday morning and has since spoken with family, team officials, the coach, and teammates who visited him.
“He’s better,” reported Fiorentina goalkeeper David de Gea, one of several players who visited Bove in hospital. Italian Olympic Committee president Giovanni Malago also expressed optimism about Bove’s recovery.
Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso and his family, currently in the United States, are in constant contact with the club and offering their support. The club has expressed gratitude for the widespread support from fans, clubs, and the football community. A banner reading “Strength Edoardo, Florence is with you” was placed outside the hospital by fans.
Further investigations will be conducted in the coming days to determine the cause of Bove’s collapse. Despite the incident, Fiorentina is scheduled to play Empoli in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday.
