**NELLORE, Andhra Pradesh (Dec 3, 2024)** – Heavy rainfall continues to batter Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, as the lingering effects of Cyclone Fenjal wreak havoc. Flooding has inundated roads, and agricultural lands along the coast have suffered significant damage.
The remnants of Cyclone Fenjal, which weakened into a deep depression on Monday, continue to dump heavy rain across the region. Nellore district bore the brunt of the downpour, with some areas reporting exceptionally high rainfall totals. Gudulur recorded 122.2 mm, while Darakanipaadu in Guduru mandal saw 109 mm. Other areas also experienced significant rainfall, with several locations recording over 70 mm.
The heavy rainfall has caused widespread flooding, particularly in Nellore. The increased water flow in the Penna River led to a dramatic rescue operation. Six shepherds who had taken their livestock into the river were trapped by a sudden surge in water levels. Local MLA Vemireddy Prasanthi Reddy alerted authorities, who successfully rescued the shepherds using fire department boats. The MLA commended the swift action taken by the officials.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of further rainfall in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions, with a forecast for heavy rain in parts of Sri Satya Sai district on Tuesday. Farmers have been advised to postpone harvesting activities until Wednesday, when clearer skies are expected. The IMD also highlighted the potential for continued crop damage along the coast.
