Tue Dec 03 11:45:07 UTC 2024: ## Madras Jazz Festival Returns with International Flair

**Chennai, December 3, 2024** – The Madras Jazz Festival, celebrating its tenth year, is set to bring a vibrant mix of international and local jazz talent to Chennai on December 8th. Founder Eddie Prithviraj describes the festival, which will take place at the Alliance Française of Madras, as a “boutique” event, attracting a dedicated audience of approximately 2,000.

This year’s lineup features a distinctly European and modern jazz influence. Headliners include Estonian band Lonitseera, led by Kaisa Kuslapuu; Czech artist Milli Janatkova; and the New York-based Silvan Joray Trio. Janatkova will collaborate with Chennai-based saxophonist Maarten Visser, a long-time festival supporter. The performances will showcase a range of instruments, including flute, double bass, piano, guitar, and percussion, promising diverse and captivating soundscapes.

Prithviraj emphasized Chennai’s long-standing appreciation for jazz music, citing popular jazz nights at the Unwind Centre in previous decades. He highlighted the festival’s evolution, noting that this year marks the first time tickets are required, reflecting the growing popularity of the event. Past festivals have featured renowned artists such as Louis Banks and Brian Molley.

For newcomers to the genre, Prithviraj recommends exploring Indian jazz talent as a starting point, suggesting Prasanna’s “Ragabop” as an excellent introduction. Tickets for the Madras Jazz Festival, organized by Exodus and Unwind Centre, are priced at ₹999 and available on BookMyShow and Insider. The event begins at 5 pm.
