**KOCHI, India (December 3, 2024)** – A delegation from the European Union (EU) visited the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) in Kochi on Monday to explore potential research collaborations. Led by Pierrick Fillion-Ashida, First Counsellor and Head of Research and Innovation at the EU Delegation to India, the delegation was particularly interested in CIFT’s work on marine fisheries, litter management, blue economy initiatives, One Health and antimicrobial resistance, sustainable fisheries management, and ocean governance standards and policy.
Discussions focused on potential collaboration under “Horizon Europe,” the EU’s largest research and innovation funding program. The EU representatives highlighted funding opportunities available to Indian research institutions to further advancements in these key areas. The visit signifies a potential strengthening of research ties between the EU and leading Indian research institutions in the field of fisheries and marine sciences.
