**Dubai/New Delhi** – The UAE has offered to host the highly anticipated India-Pakistan cricket match, potentially resolving a major impasse surrounding the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The offer comes amidst escalating tensions between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which refuses to send its team to Pakistan, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which insists on hosting the entire tournament in Pakistan.
A potential solution, reported by Geo News, suggests India and Pakistan will play their respective “away” Champions Trophy matches in Dubai over the next three years. This proposal, however, has been rejected by the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, who while open to a new formula, insists it must be equitable. He explicitly ruled out a hybrid model.
Adding fuel to the fire, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, reiterated India’s security concerns regarding playing in Pakistan, echoing the BCCI’s position. India hasn’t toured Pakistan since 2008.
UAE Ambassador to India, Abdulnasser Alshaali, expressed the UAE’s willingness to host the India-Pakistan match, stating, “The UAE is open for business and open for sports.” The UAE has a proven track record of hosting high-profile cricket matches.
The ICC held a meeting on Friday to discuss the tournament’s future, but no concrete decision was announced. The situation remains fluid, with the prospect of the UAE providing a neutral venue offering a potential path forward for this crucial cricketing encounter.
