Tue Dec 03 02:52:56 UTC 2024: ## Indian Lawyer Fighting for Life After Attack in Bangladesh
**Kolkata, India – December 3, 2024** – An Indian lawyer, Advocate Ramen Roy, is reportedly fighting for his life in a Bangladeshi hospital after a brutal attack, allegedly at the hands of Islamists. The attack, according to ISKCON Kolkata spokesperson Radharamn Das, is linked to Roy’s defense of Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu, a Hindu monk arrested in Bangladesh.
Das, also the vice president of ISKCON Kolkata, claims Roy’s home was ransacked and he was critically injured. He shared a picture of Roy in intensive care on X (formerly Twitter), urging prayers for his recovery and highlighting the alleged persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh. The post used the hashtags #SaveBangladeshiHindus and #FreeChinmoyKrishnaPrabhu.
While PTI could not independently verify the claims, Das told a Bengali news channel that the attack was a direct consequence of Roy’s legal representation of Prabhu, emphasizing the increasing dangers faced by those defending religious minorities in Bangladesh.
Prabhu, a spokesperson for Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote, was arrested on Monday at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while traveling to a rally. He was denied bail and remanded to custody on Tuesday.
The incident highlights the precarious situation of the Hindu minority in Bangladesh, whose population has plummeted from approximately 22% during the 1971 Liberation War to an estimated 8% today. This decline is attributed to socio-political marginalization, exodus, and violence. The attack on Roy adds further urgency to concerns about the safety and security of religious minorities in the country.
