BULAWAYO, ZIMBABWE – December 3, 2024 – Sufyan Muqeem, a left-arm spinner for Pakistan, has etched his name into the record books, delivering the best ever bowling figures in a Pakistan T20I match. In the second T20I against Zimbabwe, Muqeem claimed an astonishing five wickets for just three runs.
This surpasses the previous best performance for Pakistan in T20I cricket, previously held by Umar Gul (5 wickets for 6 runs against both New Zealand and South Africa) and Imad Wasim (5 wickets for 14 runs). Muqeem achieved this feat in a mere 2.4 overs (16 balls) at the Queens Sports Club. He is only the third Pakistani bowler to achieve a five-wicket haul in a T20I match.
Muqeem’s exceptional bowling performance bowled out Zimbabwe for their lowest ever T20I score of 57 runs. Pakistan effortlessly chased this target in 5.3 overs without losing a single wicket, securing a 10-wicket victory and a commanding 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
The 25-year-old Muqeem, who plays for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), has previously played six T20I matches, taking nine wickets prior to this remarkable performance. In the first match of the Zimbabwe series, he took 3 wickets for 20 runs. This latest achievement solidifies his place as a rising star in Pakistani cricket.
