**Geneva, Switzerland** – The World Health Organization (WHO), in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and numerous organizations, will mark World AIDS Day 2024 with a significant event focusing on the evolving challenges to the global HIV response. The event, held in Geneva, will explore the impact of shrinking civic space, shifting health priorities, climate change, forced displacement, health emergencies, and political instability on HIV prevention and treatment efforts.

The day will begin with a poignant candlelight ceremony, followed by a moderated discussion featuring prominent speakers and insights from civil society organizations and individuals living with HIV. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing the global fight against HIV/AIDS.

A marketplace area will offer practical information and resources on equity and inclusion, as well as access to prevention, testing, and treatment services for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. A special World AIDS Day 2024 video will also be showcased.

WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus will deliver a key message for the day. The event aims to foster dialogue and collaboration towards a more effective and equitable global response to the ongoing HIV/AIDS pandemic. A light breakfast will be provided for in-person attendees.
