**Kolkata, India** – The impact of Cyclone Phenjal has subsided, leaving Kolkata with clear, sunny skies this morning. While the city enjoys a respite from the cyclone’s effects, a significant drop in temperature is not expected immediately. The Alipore Meteorological Department predicts that the true onset of winter will be felt from the second week of December. No significant temperature changes are anticipated in the next five days, after which a gradual decrease is expected.
Phenjal, which formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal, caused a rise in humidity and temperature in the region. Kolkata experienced a minimum temperature of 22.4°C, approximately 5°C above normal, accompanied by intermittent rain in the city and surrounding areas. Light rainfall was also reported in South 24 Parganas, East Medinipur, West Medinipur, and Jhargram districts on Sunday. Cloudy conditions contributed to the higher temperatures, although Sunday saw a slight decrease, the temperature remained above normal.
Light to moderate fog is predicted for parts of West Bengal, including West Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, West Burdwan, Birbhum, and several districts in North Bengal, such as Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Malda, and North and South Dinajpur.
While South Bengal awaits the full arrival of winter, the western districts and North Bengal are expected to experience cooler conditions sooner. Though temperatures in North Bengal will remain relatively stable, the chill will be more pronounced compared to the southern parts of the state.
