Sun Dec 01 19:40:35 UTC 2024: ## Verstappen Dominates in Qatar, Denies McLaren Constructors’ Title

**Doha, Qatar –** Max Verstappen secured his ninth win of the 2024 Formula 1 season, extending his lead in the driver’s championship and denying McLaren a constructors’ title victory in a dramatic and controversial Qatar Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver, who started second after a qualifying penalty, overtook pole-sitter Lando Norris at the start and maintained a commanding lead throughout the race, finishing six seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

The race was punctuated by several incidents, including a red flag in the opening lap and a mid-race crash involving Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz. A late 10-second stop-go penalty for Norris, for an unspecified infraction, further hampered McLaren’s title bid. Despite Oscar Piastri’s third-place finish, McLaren fell short of securing their first constructors’ championship since 1998, finishing 21 points ahead of Ferrari with only the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix remaining.

Verstappen, visibly pleased with his performance, described the victory as a welcome return to form after a period of dry-weather struggles. Leclerc, while acknowledging Ferrari’s strong second-place finish, conceded that McLaren’s 21-point lead makes the constructors’ title a difficult, but not impossible, challenge in the season finale. George Russell finished fourth for Mercedes, while Norris’s penalty relegated him to tenth. Red Bull, despite Verstappen’s win, remain out of contention for the constructors’ title.
