**Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, December 2, 2024** – Heavy rains and flooding caused by Cyclone Fengal continue to impact parts of Tamil Nadu, with Villupuram and Cuddalore districts bearing the brunt of the damage. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin visited affected areas on Sunday, inspecting relief efforts and distributing essential supplies to those displaced.
According to official sources, 688 villages in Villupuram district have been affected, forcing evacuations in several areas. Over 1800 people are currently sheltered in 34 relief camps across the district. Significant infrastructure damage has been reported, including the uprooting of 27 trees and 125 electric poles in Villupuram. Relief operations are underway to restore power and clear debris.
Cuddalore district also experienced severe flooding, with 1374 people housed in 14 relief camps. The district received exceptionally heavy rainfall, with Cuddalore recording 235 mm in the 24 hours leading up to Sunday morning. Damage includes 25 thatched huts and extensive damage to power lines, affecting 1.7 km of electric lines and 127 poles. Relief work is ongoing, officials stated. The Cuddalore Collectorate received numerous rain-related distress calls.
The state government has mobilized significant resources for relief and recovery efforts across the affected regions. The situation remains fluid, with ongoing assessments of the full extent of the damage.
