Sun Dec 01 19:50:50 UTC 2024: ## Delhi CM Urges LG to Reinstate Bus Marshals
**New Delhi, December 2, 2024** – Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has urged Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena to immediately approve the reinstatement of over 10,000 civil defence volunteers who served as bus marshals. The marshals were dismissed in October 2023 due to alleged irregularities in their recruitment process.
While the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, headed by the LG, approved their reinstatement for pollution-mitigation duties in October 2024, the process remains stalled. In a letter to the LG, CM Atishi expressed frustration over the delay, highlighting the crucial role the marshals played in ensuring women’s safety on public transport.
“Before their deployment, harassment was a daily reality for women commuters,” Atishi stated, emphasizing the positive impact the marshals had on public safety. She described their dismissal as a “conspiracy” and expressed concern for the marshals and their families who are now unemployed. The CM urged swift action to alleviate the financial and emotional distress caused by the ongoing delay.
