Mon Dec 02 00:56:33 UTC 2024: ## Verstappen Wins Chaotic Qatar Grand Prix, Constructors’ Championship Goes Down to the Wire

**DOHA, QATAR –** Max Verstappen secured victory in a dramatic Qatar Grand Prix, but the race was far from straightforward. A tense battle for the lead with Lando Norris ended abruptly when Norris received a 10-second stop-and-go penalty for failing to slow sufficiently under double waved yellow flags, dropping him to the back of the field. He eventually recovered to 10th, claiming the fastest lap bonus point.

Verstappen’s win, his ninth of the season and first as a four-time world champion, was secured despite a late safety car period triggered by debris from Alex Albon’s Williams. The incident, along with Norris’ penalty, significantly reshaped the race, leaving Leclerc to claim a surprise second place ahead of Oscar Piastri.

This result dramatically tightened the Constructors’ Championship battle. McLaren’s lead over Ferrari was slashed to 21 points, setting up a thrilling finale in next weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Ferrari gained crucial points, narrowing the gap despite expectations that the track would disadvantage their car. Charles Leclerc expressed his happiness with the result, highlighting the unexpected strong performance given their car’s characteristics.

The race also saw its share of misfortune. Lewis Hamilton, in what may be his final race with Mercedes, endured a disastrous outing. Penalties for a false start and speeding in the pit lane, coupled with a puncture, relegated him to 12th. Esteban Ocon’s final race for Alpine ended early following a first-lap collision, leaving him to be replaced by Jack Doohan in Abu Dhabi. Sauber celebrated their first points of the season thanks to Zhou Guanyu’s eighth-place finish.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix promises to be a nail-biter, with the Constructors’ Championship still up for grabs and the Drivers’ Championship runner-up position also fiercely contested.
