Mon Dec 02 01:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Bengaluru Braces for Heavy Rainfall as Cyclone Fengal Approaches

**Bengaluru, [Date]** – Bengaluru is preparing for heavy rainfall as Cyclone Fengal approaches Karnataka, prompting concerns about potential school closures and widespread disruption. While no official school or college holidays have yet been announced, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for Bengaluru and several surrounding districts, with an Orange Alert for others further south.

The IMD forecasts rainfall ranging from 35 to 85 mm in Bengaluru and surrounding districts over the next 48 hours, with the heaviest rainfall expected on Monday and Tuesday. Chamarajanagara, Mysuru, Kodagu, and Dakshina Kannada districts are expected to be hardest hit. This follows heavy rainfall in October, which led to school closures.

In anticipation of the heavy downpour, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath has ordered city officials to remain on duty this Sunday, a scheduled holiday. Teams are on standby to address potential issues such as fallen trees (28 tree-cutting teams deployed), waterlogging (pumps and sandbags prepared), and drainage blockages. All zonal control rooms will operate continuously throughout the weekend.

While the possibility of school closures remains, parents and students are advised to monitor official announcements from the Bengaluru Collector and educational institutions for updates. The BBMP is urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any emergencies to the relevant authorities.
