**Mirpur, Dhaka** – Bangladesh Women have extended their lead in the three-match ODI series against Ireland Women, securing a convincing victory in the second match at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. Following their win in the first ODI, Bangladesh once again proved too strong for their opponents.
Ireland, batting first, managed a respectable 193/6 in their 50 overs. Orla Prendergast (68) and Amy Hunter (37) spearheaded the Irish innings after a shaky start, with Laura Delany adding a valuable 33*.
Bangladesh’s chase was relatively comfortable. Murshida Khatun’s early dismissal was quickly forgotten as Fargana Hoque (50) and Sharmin Akhter (43) laid a solid foundation. Captain Nigar Sultana’s 40* guided them to victory in the 44th over, with five wickets remaining.
Sharmin Akhter leads the series run-scoring charts for Bangladesh with 139 runs, while Sultana Khatun has taken a series-high 5 wickets. For Ireland, Amy Hunter tops the run charts with 68 runs, and Laura Delany leads the wicket-takers with 3.
Pre-match predictions favoured a Bangladesh victory, with Fargana Hoque and Laura Delany tipped as top batters and Nahida Akter and Arlene Kelly as top bowlers. The prediction of a Bangladesh win proved accurate. The final ODI will determine if Bangladesh can complete a clean sweep of the series.
