**Mumbai, India** – Indian banks will be closed for a total of 17 days in December 2024, due to a combination of festivals, weekend closures, and existing bank holidays, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The closures include five Sundays, two Saturdays (the second and fourth), and ten days designated as holidays for various festivals. While regional festivals will result in closures for banks in specific states, all banks will be closed on the designated Saturdays and Sundays.
Online banking services will remain operational throughout the month, ensuring continued access to financial services for customers. The RBI’s full list of December 2024 bank holidays will be released shortly.
Separately, bank employee unions’ ongoing push for a five-day work week is gaining traction. Reports suggest the finance ministry is nearing a final decision on the proposal, which, if approved, would see all Saturdays designated as bank holidays.
