**NEW DELHI, December 2, 2024** – The Indian Navy is poised for significant expansion, according to Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi, who announced ambitious plans for modernization and fleet growth ahead of Navy Day on December 4th. Addressing a press conference, Admiral Tripathi highlighted the ongoing construction of 62 ships and one submarine, with an average of one ship to be commissioned monthly next year.

The Navy’s focus extends to monitoring the activities of extra-regional forces in the Indian Ocean region, including those of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Admiral Tripathi confirmed that the Navy is closely tracking PLA warships and research vessels.

Furthermore, the Admiral revealed that deals for Rafale-M fighter jets and three additional Scorpene submarines are in advanced stages, with anticipated signing by January 2025. He also showcased the Navy’s expanding operational capabilities, citing the simultaneous participation of Indian naval vessels in the RIMPAC exercise and a deployment to Russia in 2024.

Addressing the recent successful test of a Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) from the INS Arighat, Admiral Tripathi clarified that the test was conducted without a warhead and that trajectory analysis is currently underway. He also noted that the INS Arihant has completed several deterrence patrols, while the newly commissioned INS Arighat is undergoing trials.

Finally, Admiral Tripathi commented on the surprising expansion of the Pakistan Navy, noting their aim to reach a 50-ship fleet. He expressed skepticism about Pakistan’s ability to sustain such growth given its economic constraints.
