**Bengaluru, India** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a show-cause notice to Karnataka MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal for repeated defiance of party directives and public criticism of state-level leadership. The notice, issued Sunday, cites Yatnal’s continued public pronouncements contradicting the party’s official stance on several political and public matters.
The BJP highlighted Yatnal’s previous show-cause notices and assurances of improved conduct, stating that his indiscipline persists. The party acknowledged Yatnal’s seniority but emphasized that his false allegations against party leaders and disregard for official party lines constitute a serious breach of party discipline, citing Article XXV of the BJP Party Rules. Yatnal has ten days to respond.
The notice follows Yatnal’s proposal for a public awareness campaign regarding amendments to the Waqf Bill, which was met with opposition from several party leaders who sought to prevent him from organizing the event independently. Senior BJP leader M.P. Renukacharya stated that Yatnal should be prevented from conducting any independent campaigns.
This action comes after Yatnal’s December 2023 allegations of ₹40,000 crore embezzlement during the first wave of Covid-19 under the previous Yediyurappa government. He threatened to expose the alleged irregularities if expelled from the party, claiming inflated costs for Covid-19 treatment and even inflated mask prices. The BJP’s disciplinary action now puts the spotlight on these serious allegations.
