**Hassan, Karnataka –** A promising young IPS officer, Harsh Bardhan, 26, died in a road accident on Sunday evening in Karnataka’s Hassan district, just as he was beginning his career. Bardhan, a 2023-batch IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre and a native of Madhya Pradesh, was en route to his first posting as a probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police in Holenarasipur when the tragedy occurred.

The accident happened near Kittane in Hassan taluk when a tire burst on the vehicle he was traveling in, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle subsequently collided with a house and a tree. While the driver, Manjegowda, sustained minor injuries, Bardhan suffered severe head injuries and succumbed to them while receiving treatment at a hospital.

Bardhan, the son of a sub-divisional magistrate, had recently completed his four-week training at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysuru. His death has sent shockwaves through the Karnataka police force.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his condolences on X (formerly Twitter), stating his sadness at the loss of such a promising officer and offering his sympathies to the bereaved family. He highlighted the tragic irony of the accident occurring just as Bardhan was embarking on his career after years of dedicated work.
