Mon Dec 02 00:03:03 UTC 2024: **Andhra Pradesh Electricity Prices to Increase Again**

VIJAYAWADA, INDIA – Electricity prices in Andhra Pradesh are set to rise for the second time since the coalition government took power. The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved proposals from distribution companies (discoms) to increase charges, resulting in an estimated additional burden of ₹9,412 crore on consumers from December.

The increase, amounting to ₹0.92 per unit, will be levied as an adjustment charge until November 2026. This follows previous increases attributed to True Up charges and Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustments (FPPCA). The ERC approved ₹7,912 crore (excluding a ₹1,500 crore agricultural subsidy) of the ₹12,844 crore adjustment requested by discoms for 2023-24, rejecting ₹3,432 crore.

The decision has drawn criticism for bypassing public consultation. The discoms are expected to collect approximately ₹2,868.90 crore monthly from consumers, based on the ERC’s approved rate of ₹0.40 per unit, in addition to the new adjustment charge.
