Sun Dec 01 07:26:52 UTC 2024: ## UK Woman Hit with £2,000 Parking Fine Due to Poor Signal

**Derby, UK** – A Derby woman is facing a hefty fine of over £2,000 after a parking company, Excel Parking Ltd, issued her multiple penalty notices due to alleged delays in paying for parking. Rosey Hudson claims poor mobile phone signal in the Copeland Street car park repeatedly prevented her from making timely payments via the required app.

Despite consistently paying the full daily parking fee of £3.30, Hudson received ten Parking Charge Notices (PCNs), totaling £1,905.76. She maintains that a faulty payment machine forced her to rely on the app, but difficulties connecting due to weak signal resulted in payment times exceeding the car park’s five-minute limit. Excel Parking disputes her claim, stating that clear signage indicated the payment timeframe and that Hudson was responsible for adhering to it. They allege payment times ranged from 14 to 190 minutes.

Hudson insists the app’s processing time added to the delay and refutes Excel’s claims, stating that the assertion of such extended payment times is “absolutely ludicrous.” She also points out that the payment machine was out of order, a claim denied by Excel. The company maintains its five-minute rule is necessary to prevent misuse.

Following failed attempts to appeal the fines directly and through a debt recovery service, Hudson now faces a court hearing within six months after mediation failed. The case highlights the frustrations faced by drivers dealing with parking companies and the potential for significant fines resulting from technical difficulties and disputes over payment deadlines.
