**West Palm Beach, FL – December 1, 2024** – President-elect Donald Trump has announced his intention to nominate Charles Kushner, father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as the next U.S. Ambassador to France. The announcement, made via a Truth Social post, lauded Kushner as a “tremendous business leader, philanthropist, & dealmaker.”
Kushner, founder of Kushner Companies, has a controversial past. In 2005, he pleaded guilty to 18 counts, including tax evasion and witness tampering, stemming from a scheme involving hiring a prostitute to entrap his brother-in-law and subsequently sending a recording of the encounter to his sister. He served two years in prison. Then-U.S. Attorney Chris Christie, who later served as New Jersey governor and a Republican presidential candidate, described the crime as “one of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes” he had prosecuted.
Despite this, President-elect Trump pardoned Kushner in December 2020. The two men have a long-standing relationship within real estate circles, further cemented by the 2009 marriage of their children, Jared and Ivanka Trump. Christie, who attributes his dismissal from Trump’s transition team to Jared Kushner, has publicly criticized the nomination. The nomination is certain to spark significant debate given Kushner’s criminal history.
