Sun Dec 01 02:06:02 UTC 2024: ## Trump Nominates Indian-American Kash Patel as FBI Director
**Washington, D.C. –** President-elect Donald Trump announced Saturday the nomination of Kash Patel, a close confidante, as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). This appointment would make Patel the highest-ranking Indian American in the incoming administration.
Trump lauded Patel, 44, as a “brilliant lawyer, investigator, and ‘America First’ fighter,” citing his role in uncovering what Trump terms the “Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax.” Patel previously served as Chief of Staff to the Acting Secretary of Defense and held other key national security positions during Trump’s first term. Trump highlighted Patel’s extensive legal experience, including over 60 jury trials, and expressed confidence in his ability to combat crime, dismantle criminal gangs, and curb drug trafficking.
Patel, born in New York to East African parents of Gujarati descent, has a background in state and federal public defense, as well as international terrorism prosecution. He gained prominence for his role in the House Intelligence Committee’s Russia investigation, contributing significantly to a GOP memo that alleged Democratic involvement in the probe.
While his work in government has been lauded by the Trump administration, Patel has also been critical of the U.S. bureaucracy, arguing in his recently published book, “Government Gangster,” that it suffers from a severe lack of accountability. He has accused both Republican and Democrat appointees of engaging in a “two-tier system of justice.”
Patel’s nomination is expected to generate considerable discussion, given his prominent role in previous investigations and his outspoken views on the political landscape. The appointment will now go before the Senate for confirmation.
