Sat Nov 30 16:17:55 UTC 2024: ## BJP to Lead Maharashtra Government, Swearing-in Set for December 5th

**Mumbai, November 30th** – Maharashtra’s next government will be led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for December 5th at 5 pm at Azad Maidan, Mumbai, announced BJP state chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule today. The announcement follows a meeting of the Mahayuti alliance partners – BJP, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.

Ajit Pawar of the NCP confirmed that the BJP will provide the Chief Minister, while the two remaining alliance partners will each receive a Deputy Chief Minister position. The Mahayuti alliance secured a comfortable majority in the recent state elections, winning 230 of the 288 seats. The BJP emerged as the single largest party with 132 seats, followed by Shinde’s Shiv Sena (57) and the NCP (41).

The delay in government formation, six days after the election results were declared, was addressed by Pawar, who cited past instances of similar delays. While the BJP is yet to hold a meeting of its elected MLAs or appoint a legislature party leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony. Outgoing Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has indicated he will abide by the BJP’s decision regarding the Chief Minister’s post, leaving Devendra Fadnavis as a strong contender, unless the party opts for a new leader.
