**Bengaluru, November 30, 2024** – The Kannada translation of former Kerala Health Minister K.K. Shailaja’s memoir, “Comrade Aagi Nanna Baduku” (My Life as a Comrade), was released in Bengaluru on Saturday. The book, translated by Dr. H.S. Anupama and published by Kriya Madhyama, chronicles Ms. Shailaja’s life and experiences, particularly her acclaimed handling of the COVID-19 pandemic as Health Minister.
At the launch event, organized in association with Pustaka Preeti and Sarvatrika Arogya Andolana-Karnataka, Ms. Shailaja emphasized the importance of decisive leadership and effective teamwork during crises. She highlighted her experience managing the COVID-19 outbreak as a prime example.
Translator Dr. Anupama, herself a doctor, suggested that the memoir be translated into all Indian languages. She praised Ms. Shailaja’s remarkable detachment from power and her refusal of numerous awards, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award, calling it a unique trait for a politician. Dr. Anupama also encouraged Ms. Shailaja to write a second volume focusing on the practical aspects of communism. The event highlighted Ms. Shailaja’s connection to Karnataka, noting that she completed her B.Ed. in Kodagu.
