**Chennai, December 1, 2024** – Cyclone Benjal made landfall on Sunday, December 1st, 2024, resulting in heavy rainfall across several districts of Tamil Nadu. The most significant rainfall was recorded in Mayilam, Viluppuram district, with an astonishing 50 centimeters (20 inches) of rain in a single day.

In the 24-hour period ending this morning, measurements (in millimeters) included: D.S.C.L., Madambondi (131 mm); D.S.C.L., Thiruppallapandal (122 mm); D.S.C.L., Kalayanallur (121 mm); P.A.S.L., Manalurpettai (115 mm); Ariyalur (115 mm); D.S.C.L., Virugaavoor (105 mm); D.S.C.L., Soolangurichchi (100 mm); D.S.C.L., Thiyathurukkam (98 mm); D.S.C.L., Rishivandiyam (90.6 mm); K.C.S., Mill-1 Moongil Thuraipattu (78 mm); K.C.S., Mill-2 Kachirappapalayam (51 mm); S.C.S., Mill Pillaiyarkuppam (36.8 mm); Kanchipuram Taluk Office (153.24 mm); and Kunrattur Taluk Office (107.2 mm). Chennai’s Meenambakkam area recorded 11 centimeters of rainfall.
