**Bengaluru, November 29, 2024** – The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced today that Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla and Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, selected for the Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS), have successfully completed the initial phase of their training in the United States.
The training, which began in early August, included orientation tours of mission-related ground facilities, an overview of launch phases, SpaceX spacesuit fittings, and selection of space food options. Astronauts also familiarized themselves with the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, ISS onboard systems, and practiced various emergency procedures, including medical emergencies. The training incorporated sessions on space photography, daily operational routines, and communication protocols.
The next phase of training will focus on the remaining modules of the ISS’s U.S. Orbital Segment, conducting scientific research experiments in microgravity, and simulating mission scenarios within the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft. The ISRO stated that this joint ISRO-NASA effort marks a significant step towards India’s ambitions in space exploration.
