Tue Nov 26 20:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Record Drone Attack Rocks Ukraine; Russia Makes Gains in Donetsk

**KYIV, Ukraine —** Russia launched a record-breaking drone attack on Ukraine overnight, deploying 188 drones against multiple regions, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. While most drones were intercepted, the assault caused damage to apartment buildings and critical infrastructure, including the power grid. Although no immediate casualties were reported across the 17 targeted regions, the attack highlights the escalating intensity of the conflict nearing its third year.

The massive drone assault comes as Russia continues its offensive in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region, making significant tactical advances and putting pressure on Ukrainian supply lines, according to Western military analysts. The Institute for the Study of War noted that while Ukrainian defenses are not currently in danger of being overrun, Russia’s gains, however incremental, are accumulating.

Ukraine faces a challenging winter, with concerns about electricity supply and the level of continued US support under President-elect Donald Trump. The air raid alert in the Kyiv region lasted over seven hours, underscoring Russia’s strategy to demoralize the civilian population.

Meanwhile, Russia claims to have destroyed 39 Ukrainian drones over its border regions. Fierce fighting continues in the Donetsk region, particularly near Pokrovsk and Kurakhove, where roughly half of all clashes occurred in the past 24 hours. Ukraine’s manpower shortages on the front lines are exacerbating the situation.

In a separate development, a British national, identified as James Scott Rhys Anderson, is being held in detention in Russia’s Kursk region pending investigation and trial. The hearing was held behind closed doors, and the charges against him remain unclear.
