Thu Nov 28 02:23:42 UTC 2024: ## Priyanka Gandhi Takes Oath as MP, Joining Family Dynasty in Parliament

**New Delhi** – Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was sworn in as a Member of Parliament today, following her landslide victory in the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election. The win, with a margin exceeding four lakh votes, surpasses even her brother Rahul Gandhi’s 2019 margin in the same constituency. This adds to the already prominent presence of the Gandhi family in Indian politics, with Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi also serving in Parliament. Sonia Gandhi, who chose not to contest the 2024 general elections, currently holds a Rajya Sabha seat.

Priyanka Gandhi’s entry into Parliament highlights the continued prominence of political families in India. Several other prominent examples include the Yadav family in Uttar Pradesh, with Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple Yadav both serving in the Lok Sabha, alongside cousins Akshay and Dharmendra Yadav. Similarly, Pappu Yadav’s election to the Lok Sabha joins his wife Ranjeet Ranjan, a Rajya Sabha MP, in the national legislature. The Pawar family also maintains its political presence with Sharad Pawar in the Rajya Sabha and his daughter Supriya Sule in the Lok Sabha.

The trend extends beyond the national level. In Bihar, Rabri Devi and her sons Tejashwi and Tej Pratap Yadav hold seats in the state assembly. Himachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and his wife Kamlesh Thakur are both state MLAs. Jharkhand will also see Chief Minister-elect Hemant Soren and his wife Kalpana Soren serving together in the state assembly. These examples underscore the continuing influence of family dynamics in Indian politics across various levels of government.
