Thu Nov 28 02:51:21 UTC 2024: **New Zealand Announces Test Debutant and Williamson’s Return for England Series**

Christchurch, New Zealand – All-rounder Nathan Smith will make his Test debut for New Zealand in the upcoming series against England, New Zealand captain Tom Latham confirmed on Wednesday. Smith’s selection follows a rapid rise through the ranks, culminating in a strong performance in the Plunket Shield where he topped the wickets charts. His debut comes just two weeks after playing his first international ODIs against Sri Lanka.

The first Test, starting Thursday at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, will also see the return of former captain Kane Williamson. Williamson replaces Will Young, the player-of-the-series against India, in the batting lineup. While Latham acknowledged Young’s excellent recent performance, he highlighted the boost Williamson’s inclusion brings to the team.

The two-match series between New Zealand and England is crucial for New Zealand’s World Test Championship (WTC) ambitions. A series win could secure them a place in the WTC final. However, Latham emphasized the team’s focus remains solely on the immediate matches, with the larger implications a secondary consideration.

The first Test match will be live-streamed on Amazon Prime Video. The series continues in Wellington (December 6th) and Hamilton (December 14th).
