**New Delhi, November 27, 2024** – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched a scathing attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of allowing Delhi to become a hub for crime and extortion. Kejriwal’s comments followed a visit to a trader whose shop was targeted in a shooting incident in September.
Kejriwal claimed that daylight shootings and extortion are rampant, alleging that businessmen are receiving frequent extortion calls. He dismissed the police’s arrest of suspects as a “mere eyewash,” questioning the lack of progress in the investigation and demanding to know who orchestrated the incident.
Delhi Police’s Special Commissioner (Law and Order), Madhup Kumar Tewari, countered Kejriwal’s claims, stating that the accused were arrested swiftly and that the police are effectively tackling criminal activities.
The BJP responded by accusing Kejriwal of attempting to deflect attention from the AAP government’s shortcomings and corruption. North West Delhi MP Yogender Chandoliya stated that Kejriwal’s concerns, raised two months after the incident, were politically motivated. Chandoliya also claimed that Kejriwal’s vehicle was met with black flags by local residents.
Kejriwal also hosted sanitation workers at his residence, highlighting AAP’s welfare initiatives and emphasizing their role in maintaining a clean city. The AAP, meanwhile, has reportedly initiated a targeted micro-campaign ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, focusing on individual constituencies and highlighting their free water and electricity schemes. The strategy contrasts with their 2020 campaign, which centered around Kejriwal himself. This comes after Kejriwal’s resignation as Chief Minister in September following a Supreme Court ruling granting him conditional bail in a case linked to the scrapped Delhi excise policy.
