Thu Nov 28 02:53:43 UTC 2024: ## Moana 2 Sets Sail to Record-Breaking Thanksgiving Box Office
**Los Angeles, CA** – Disney’s *Moana 2* is making a splash at the box office, shattering Thanksgiving weekend records with an estimated $54 million first-day gross, including a record-breaking $13.8 million preview haul on Tuesday. Industry analysts predict a massive 5-day opening weekend exceeding $170 million, easily surpassing the previous Thanksgiving record held by Disney’s own *Frozen* ($93.9 million) and *Frozen 2* ($125 million). The film’s 3-day weekend gross is projected to land between $90 million and $100 million.
This marks Dwayne Johnson’s highest-grossing domestic box office opening day, surpassing even *Furious 7*’s $147.1 million debut. It’s also Disney’s fourth blockbuster to surpass $100 million domestically under the Alan Bergman team.
*Moana 2*’s impressive performance even bests the first-day gross of *The Super Mario Bros. Movie* ($31.7 million), although the latter lacked previews. Excluding previews, *Moana 2* still boasts a remarkable $40.2 million first-day total.
Other notable films also performed well: *Wicked* is on track for a $236.9 million domestic gross, potentially becoming the highest-grossing film adaptation of a Broadway musical; *Gladiator 2* earned $106.6 million in its first five days; and *Red One* continues its run with a projected $76.3 million total.
With *Moana 2*’s strong performance, the overall Thanksgiving box office is expected to significantly exceed the 2018 record of $315.6 million, setting a new benchmark for the holiday weekend.
