**New Delhi, November 27, 2024** – Air India announced significant upgrades to its domestic flight offerings following its recent merger with Vistara. The airline will deploy Vistara’s A320 aircraft, known for their superior three-class cabins (business, premium economy, and economy), on five key metro routes: Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Bengaluru, Delhi-Hyderabad, Mumbai-Bengaluru, and Mumbai-Hyderabad.
These routes will see a substantial increase in premium seating options, with Air India offering approximately 35,000 premium economy and business class seats weekly. The airline maintains a high flight frequency on these routes, with daily round trips ranging from 18 to 56, totaling over 1,000 weekly flights. While maintaining this frequency, Air India will optimize flight schedules for more even distribution throughout the day.
Air India will continue operating one wide-body flight (Boeing 777 or Airbus A350) daily on the Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Bengaluru, and Delhi-Hyderabad routes. Flights operated with Vistara aircraft will be identifiable by the ‘AI2’ prefix.
Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson stated that the merger with Vistara allows for a better customer experience by consolidating premium narrow-body aircraft on high-demand routes. He also indicated plans to expand this improved service to more routes in 2025 as new aircraft are inducted and existing narrow-body planes are retrofitted. The airline currently operates a fleet of 208 planes, including approximately 67 wide-body aircraft.
