Wed Nov 27 08:42:11 UTC 2024: ## BJP’s Tamil Selvan Wins Third Term in Mumbai’s Sion Koliwada

**Mumbai, November 27, 2024** – BJP candidate “Captain” R. Tamil Selvan secured a third consecutive victory in the Sion Koliwada Assembly constituency in Mumbai, overcoming what he described as his most challenging election yet. He defeated Congress candidate Ganesh Kumar Yadav by a margin of 7,800 votes, polling over 73,000 votes.

Selvan attributed his win to his 25 years of service to the constituency, focusing on infrastructure development and essential services. He alleged that the Congress party attempted to buy votes, offering ₹2,000 per vote, but his consistent work ultimately won the public’s trust.

Selvan’s journey to becoming an MLA is remarkable. He arrived in Mumbai in 1978 after being abandoned at the airport by an agent. Starting as a laborer, he rose to prominence advocating for marginalized communities in Dharavi and Sion Koliwada, areas he described as a “mini India” due to their diverse population. His efforts focused on providing essential services like water, electricity, roads, and healthcare in the largely slum-dwelling constituency, including providing water pipeline connections to over 40,000 homes.

His bravery during the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, where he helped rescue injured passengers, also played a significant role in his public image. He was later honored for his actions. Selvan’s political career began in 2011 as a corporator, becoming the first Tamil MLA in Maharashtra in 2014.
