Tue Nov 26 23:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Unveiling a Legacy: New “It’s a Small World” Verse Debuts in ABC Special
**NEW YORK, NY** – A previously unheard verse to the iconic Disney song “It’s a Small World,” penned by the late Richard M. Sherman before his death in May, will premiere in a special ABC broadcast. The three-and-a-half-minute short film, titled “The Last Verse,” will air next Wednesday, November 27th, as part of “The Untold Story of Mary Poppins: A Special Edition of 20/20.”
The new verse, a heartfelt addition to the classic tune, will be showcased in a globally-themed segment, highlighting the song’s enduring legacy across generations. Sherman, known for his work on “Mary Poppins” and “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” (with his brother Robert), created the verse before his passing at age 95.
The “Mary Poppins” special, marking the film’s 60th anniversary, features rare archival footage, photographs, and interviews with stars Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews (billed as a “special interview”), alongside Josh Gad, John Stamos, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and two of Walt Disney’s grandchildren. The special airs at 9 p.m. ET on ABC, followed by a Thanksgiving showing of the original “Mary Poppins” film on November 28th.
