**Mumbai, India –** Mahindra & Mahindra today launched its first ground-up battery electric vehicles (BEVs), the Mahindra BE 6e and the XEV 9e, marking a significant step into the Indian electric SUV market. Built on the new INGLO platform, these SUVs boast impressive features and a claimed long range.
Bookings open in late January 2025, with deliveries starting at the end of February. The BE 6e starts at ₹18.90 lakh (ex-showroom), while the XEV 9e begins at ₹21.90 lakh (ex-showroom). These introductory prices are for the base “Pack 1” variants, with on-road prices in Chennai estimated around ₹20.36 lakh and ₹23.59 lakh respectively.
Both SUVs offer a choice of 59kWh and 79kWh LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries, undergoing rigorous safety testing and boasting a lifetime warranty for the first owner. The 79kWh battery provides a claimed ARAI-certified range of 682km for the BE 6e and 656km for the XEV 9e (MIDC phase 1 + 2). Mahindra claims a range exceeding 500km in metro cities with AC usage. Fast charging from 20% to 80% takes approximately 20 minutes with a 175kW DC charger.
Performance-wise, both boast a 210kW, 380Nm motor (in top spec) and impressive acceleration: 0-100kmph in 6.7 seconds for the BE 6e and 6.8 seconds for the XEV 9e. Three drive modes – Range, Everyday, and Race – cater to different driving styles.
The BE 6e (4,371mm long) features a twin-screen setup, while the larger XEV 9e (4,789mm long) offers a triple-screen setup. Both include a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo. The XEV 9e also boasts a premium Harman Kardon 16-speaker sound system with Dolby Atmos.
Safety is a key feature, with both models equipped with seven airbags, ADAS Level 2+, a Secure 360 safety system, and AutoPark with over 200 parking options. Mahindra anticipates a five-star safety rating for both vehicles. The SUVs utilize Mahindra’s Artificial Intelligence Architecture (MAIA) integrating various technologies from drive assist to in-cabin experiences.
The BE 6e offers a 455-litre boot and a 45-litre frunk, while the XEV 9e provides a spacious 663-litre boot and a 150-litre frunk. Mahindra has applied for 35 patents related to the battery packs. The launch represents a significant investment in India’s burgeoning electric vehicle market.
