Wed Nov 27 05:36:56 UTC 2024: ## Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Resigns

**Mumbai, India** – Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde submitted his resignation to Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday. Shinde tendered his resignation alongside Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar. Following the resignation, Governor Radhakrishnan appointed Shinde as the interim Chief Minister until a successor is chosen.

Shinde’s resignation comes after the BJP-led coalition secured a landslide victory in the recent Maharashtra assembly elections, winning 232 out of 288 seats. The BJP’s strong showing led to calls for Devendra Fadnavis, the senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, to be appointed Chief Minister. While there were reports of disagreements regarding the Chief Minister’s post, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar publicly supported Fadnavis.

Prior to his resignation, Shinde posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) urging his supporters not to gather at the Chief Minister’s residence. Speculation surrounding the resignation intensified after a meeting between Shinde, Fadnavis, and Pawar with BJP leaders in Delhi on Monday night. Reports suggest that Shinde agreed to step down in favor of Fadnavis, paving the way for a new government formation with Fadnavis as Chief Minister and Shinde and Pawar continuing as Deputy Chief Ministers. Further discussions regarding portfolio allocation are expected before the official announcement of the new Chief Minister.
