PATHANAMTHITTA, KERALA – Manoj Kumar, a 40-year-old artist born with a partially formed right hand, is captivating pilgrims at the Sabarimala Ayyappan Temple with his vibrant murals. Despite his physical limitations, Kumar is creating a series of 25 oil-paint murals depicting the life of Lord Ayyappa. His work adorns the walls of the Annadanamandapam, Sabari Nandanam, and the Pandalam Malika.
Kumar, a graduate of the Raja Ravi Varma College of Fine Arts, initially supported his family by creating banners and other artwork. His talent gained wider recognition during Kollam district’s 75th-anniversary celebrations. His previous work, including a Dashavatara series at the Puthen Kavu Maha Vishnu temple, has gone viral on social media.
Invited by the Travancore Devaswom Board president, P.S. Prasanth, Kumar is working tirelessly to complete his ambitious project before the pilgrimage season ends. He considers the opportunity an immense honor, stating that his contribution will remain a lasting legacy at the sacred site. His unwavering faith and dedication serve as an inspiration, proving that limitations can be overcome with perseverance and devotion.
