Tue Nov 26 19:13:51 UTC 2024: ## Curiosity Rover Captures Stunning Mars Panorama Before Moving On
**Pasadena, CA** – NASA’s Curiosity rover has sent back a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the Gediz Vallis channel on Mars. Composed of 341 individual images taken on September 21st and 22nd, 2024 (sols 4311 and 4312), the panorama showcases the Martian landscape in Earth-like color. The image reveals the rover’s recent location within the channel, with the western edge visible in the center-left. A striking feature is a field of bright white sulfur stones at center-right, the site of Curiosity’s groundbreaking discovery of pure sulfur on Mars. This discovery was made after the rover cracked open a rock, revealing yellow sulfur crystals within.
Curiosity has since left Gediz Vallis and is continuing its westward exploration. An interactive, annotated version of the panorama is available online. The mission is led by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), managed by Caltech.
