**BIRMINGHAM, AL (November 26, 2024)** – The College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings are set to be significantly altered following several major upsets in Week 13. Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET, ESPN will broadcast the fourth installment of the CFP rankings, promising a fresh round of debate and speculation.
Alabama’s loss to Oklahoma and Ole Miss’ defeat by Florida have created significant shifts in the projected playoff bracket. Clemson and Alabama currently sit outside the projected top 12, with Clemson’s matchup against South Carolina this week holding the key to their playoff hopes. A victory could propel them into contention, while Alabama faces a tougher road to recovery after their loss.
This year marks the inaugural season of the expanded 12-team playoff format. The selection process involves the five highest-ranked conference champions, along with the next seven highest-ranked teams regardless of conference affiliation. The top four conference champions receive first-round byes. The first round will be played on campus, with higher-ranked teams hosting. Quarterfinals will take place at the traditional New Year’s Six bowls, followed by semifinals at the Orange and Cotton Bowls and the national championship game on January 20th in Atlanta.
While the rankings are updated weekly through December 3rd, the final 12-team field will be announced on December 8th. The upcoming rankings announcement promises to be highly anticipated, given the recent upsets and the tight competition for a place in the expanded playoff.
